Rock in Rio is one of South America’s most popular music festivals. Back in Rio de Janeiro, where it first began in 1985, this year is the be-all, end-all of music festivals. For the first time ever, rock legends The Who and Guns ‘n’ Roses will be joined by Lady Gaga, Maroon 5 and Justin Timberlake. Also, on the main stage there will be shows from Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, and The Offspring.
If you have plenty of energy and a week to spare, then head to Rio this September and experience some of the world’s biggest names perform live in the same city!

Since its conception in 1985, the festival has had 17 versions in Rio de Janeiro; Lisbon (Portugal); Madrid (Spain) and Las Vegas, with audiences reaching a whopping 8.5 million. With its thirty year history, Rock in Rio showcases international artists from all over the globe.

How to get to Rock in Rio
Music fans can either take a cab or bus to Barra de Tijuca, which is the suburban base of the festival, and the site is 1.5 hours from Rio city centre. You’ll want to book your hostel close to here as possible. Hotels will inevitably raise their prices during the festival, but budget hostels are perfect if you’re in a large group and want to book out a dormitory together.
