In order to survive, have fun and have a really good time, you are better off know and follow some key rules so here at HostelsClub we’ve decided to offer you with a useful Oktoberfest Guide and answer to the most frequent asked questions.

What to Wear to the Oktobefest?

For all the ladies, a “Dirndl“ is an absolutely “must” at the Oktoberfest , while all guys can wear  the ‘lederhosen’  – which are nothing but leather pants. It sounds like a jock, but believe us, you could risk to look weird and “out of context” without a traditional “Oktoberfest” dress code. If you don’t have it yet and decide to purchase it directly in Munich be careful, since it can be very expensive. If you are looking for a extravagant  “Dirndl!, we recommend Hubercraft.de  A cheapest version can be found at  Cunda.de.

Where Does the Oktoberfest Take Place?

The Oktoberfest is set on the famous “Theresienwiese”, which is also called “Festwiese” by the locals. This is a big construction composed by tents made especially for the Fest; it is like a big beer city with streets and the beer and souvenir tents.

What to Do When Somebody is Flirting with You?

Oktoberfest is not the best place to find  “the great love”, but if you want to  flirt and have some fun, there are no better chances to have a short love story than at the Theresenwiese.  So, if you are looking for a romantic adventure, go to the Oktoberfest!  And most importantly, don’t be rude, especially not with the girls.

How Much Beer Can I drink?

The right question is – how much beer can you hold? Munich doesn’t know pints – there is only a ONE SIZE BEER which equals to 1 litre! “Eine Mass” is like 3 regular bottles: you should therefore know your limits and (try to) not drink too much.  Be nice as if you get drunk and become rude,  this can get you out of a tent faster than you can say “hey!”

Should I Use a Car or Public Transport?

Do not drive during the Oktoberfest, be prepared for severe traffic problems even by taxi: the best way to   reach the Fest is by public transport. You have  two options:  by suburban train (“S-Bahn”), or by underground (“U-Bahn”) and one tickets costs 2,30€.

Can I Get a Place in the Tent Without Any Reservation?

This is difficult, but not impossible. But if you think you can get access to the party tents in the evening, you can forget it. Each tent has its own reservation policy.  If you don’t have any reservation, you have to go out  early and look for a place not later than 2.30 pm, and on  weekend not later than 11:00 am already.  And if you manage to get a place, be careful and don’t leave it otherwise somebody else might take it. Always remember: there is NO entry fee for the fest, and there is NO reservation fee!

How Long May I Stay at the Oktoberfest?

All  tents are closed by 11.30 pm. On the Theresienwiese  you can stay two hours longer and after the party  you can go to sleep to your hostel in Munich or to continue to celebrate in one of the many after-Oktoberfest clubs.

Is There Any Age Limit for the Oktoberfest?

You can bring your kids with you despite young kids or teenagers rarely stay in the evening. The  German law prohibits to serve strong alcohol if you are not 18 years old while beer is allowed from 16 years old

How Much Money am I Expected to Spend in a Evening at the Oktoberfest?

It depends on how much you drink and eat: 1 beer will cost you about 9€,  the Brez’n  – 4€, and you can get one “Wiesn-Hendll” chicken for 10€. You will also need some money for the bus ticket,  which makes an overall budget of at least 50 Euro.

Can I Pee Behind the Beer Tent?
No, it is absolutely forbidden and be careful since if somebody spot you, you might risk to get fined!

Can I bring My Dog to the Theresienwiese?

We are sorry for all animal lovers however it is not allowed to bring dogs to the Theresienwiese or to the other party places. And by the way, it is just best for our four-legged friends!

Can I Bring my Own Alcohol?

This is an absolute “no go” at the Oktoberfest. All drinks, beer or wine must be purchase directly there, some tents will also offer cocktails and shots. Bring some cash with you, as most places won’t accept credit cards or if they do might charge you with very high admin fees

Is It a Problem, if I Don’t Speak  German?
Don’t worry about it! They will understand you and you will be able to order a beer. Just for fun,  you can try and learn some  typical  sentences to impress your friends and be “charming” with the girls.
