How to get the most out of Amsterdam: we’ve asked the locals @ Hans Brinker

Off again to Amsterdam and looking for something alternative to do this time? Listen to what the Amsterdam experts have to say! We have asked the locals, more specifically to Hans Brinker staff who have shared with us some great suggestions

Known as “The Most XXXclusive Budget Hotel” Hans Brinker is one of Amsterdam’s most famous hostels. It is located in lively Kerkstraat and offers en-suite dorm style rooms. It boasts of a 24/7 reception service and great common spaces: a big chill out area, with a bar and a restaurant. Beds starting from 25.00 Euro

What could be better than renting a bike and get lost in Amsterdam? “That’s the best way to explorer Amsterdam” says Tijmen, Hans Brinker manager ” and if the sun is out you can also visit Vondelpark”

Water in Amsterdam in a key element and trying to see Amsterdam from its canals is also another interesting way to enjoy Amsterdam “You should try to find a local who wants to take you on his boat and take you on a cruise around the canals” suggests Hans Brinker manager “If you feel that you urge a dose of shopping visit Albert Cuypmarkt and the Noordermarkt and” you will definitely find something original to buy”

When it comes to Amsterdam nightlife there is really such a wide array of pubs and bars located in different area that the tips of a local are very much needed if you don’t want to end up in a tourist trap and ruin your night out

“Before going into the city to party visit our Hans Brinker bar for the cheapest drinks in town. f you want to follow the mainstream backpackers go on a pub crawl and check out the red light district but don’t spend too much time there. As a local I recommend you to visit the De Pijp: it’s a local area with a lot of bars and pubs and you will find a lot of students and locals there. You won’t risk to be ripped off!”

“A new popular bar in Amsterdam that I also like very much is the ‘Bloemenbar’, a hip, vintage bar, busy every night. It is located next to the shopping street: if you are on Rembrandtplein I suggest the Coco’s outback, a funny Aussie party bar, with a mix of locals and tourist”

And when it comes to clubbing? Hans Brinker staff have also something for all dance floor addicts:

“The best clubs are Paradiso and the Trouw; Paradiso is a venue located in an former church in Amsterdam city centre: Wednesdays and Thursdays are popular student nights and in the weekends they have DJ’s playing there from all over the world. Club Trouw is only  a 10-min bus ride from downtown but it is worth it as it is a cool underground arty club with a lot of good parties going on. It is definitely worth a visit. Club Air is a new trendy club located on Rembrandtplein”

Hans Brinker staff has also an idea for the after party: “If you want to party more come back to the hostel and party in our club located in the basement” Hans Brinker run also an in-house disco, located in the hostel basement which is open til 3/4am.
