Michael Moore brought down the house yesterday at the world premiere of his latest film Capitalism – a Love Story… Indicating another boxoffice hit USA. The film, focusing on the corruption on Wall Street and in the Banking world, is an important comment to the crises in US, where people lose their jobs and have to leave their house due to unfavourable loans. Moore, who never been known to be an entirely objective filmmaker is here doing propaganda (though well needed) for a new revolution in USA, saving an increasing number of the working class ending up homeless.
After the positive response, the always provocative Michael Moore encouraged the Italian audience to do the same and take action against Berlusconi and his government. But that job was already done by the Swedish-Italian fimmaker Erik Gandini who showed his film Videocrazy earlier at the festival, critizising Berlusconis corrupted power in the TV world.
Venice Film Festival has a reputation of being a brave independent filmfestival and we only hope it has the courage to stay this way. Not to mention the great location! Lido and Venice has been an obvious meetingpoint for artists from all over world for centuries.
The Venice Film Festival will continue until Sept 12.
