Backpacking at the Snowbombing Festival

Snowbombing Festival

Fancy a bit of snowboarding during the day and a hostel party at night? The Snowbombing Festival in Mayrhofen, Austria offers a unique blend of superstar DJs and mountain air. Less than an hour away from Innsbruck, the alpine festival is an electric experience for backpackers.

Now in its 15th year, the Snowbombing Festival is an annual event at the Austrian resort of Mayrhofen. Backpackers regularly stay in nearby Innsbruck, which has excellent designer hostels and low cost hotels available throughout the year.

This year’s festival runs from 6-11 April, and Fatboy Slim and Carl Cox will be among the acts playing in an igloo, a forest and an underground tennis centre.

Snowbombing Festival Music

Snowbombing has expanded from a small club night and has now become one of the highlights of the ski festival calendar. More than 5,000 music lovers will be descending upon this beautiful Tyrolean village this April.

Most nights finish at the Racket Club, an underground tennis centre that transforms into a nightclub hosting sets from Basement Jaxx and Rudimental.

Backpackers will love the blend of festival hedonism and ski town culture at Mayrhofen. Giving music fans the chance to party on the white stuff, you can learn how to ski or snowboard if you’ve never tried before. Even better is the ‘Ride N Seek’ event, which involves people throwing themselves down the Penken Park course.

Snowbombing requires you to pack some serious energy with you!

Snowboarding Austria

Proudly boasting Austria’s steepest slope adventure, a 3286m glacier and an award-winning terrain park, Snowbombing is a unique experience for festival goers.

Perfect for backpackers staying in the nearby city of Innsbruck, the rustic town is the third largest community in Tyrol and is surrounded by nine other resorts, namely Fugen, Hochfugen, Kaltenbach, Zell, Gerlos, Kunigsleiten, Finkenberg, Tux and the Hintertuxer Glacier.

Mayryhofen is completely taken over during the festival and its streets are packed full of revellers in fancy dress, enjoying drinks outside local bars and pubs. When people get hungry, there are always large queues for a tasty schnitzel or wurst from Hans, the popular local butcher.

Perfect for electro music fans and ski lovers, the Snowbombing Festival is the snowy highlight of the European music calendar. Offering backpackers an exhilarating week of brilliant bands and world class DJs in a chocolate box setting.

Book your holiday now and throw some shapes on the alpine slopes of Mayrhofen!
