Nice may commonly be viewed as a luxurious city, but it absolutely doesn’t mean that it isn’t a place for travelers on a budget. Any of our great hostels in the city will make your trip to Nice and the French Riviera affordable. In addition to this, many destinations in and around the city are free of charge, meaning you will have a wonderful experience even if you are on a budget.
You may not wish to see all of the tourist attractions of the city, but you definitely need to visit the exceptional “Promenade des Anglais”, a street built along the water of “Baie des Anges”. This is the place to visit for a stroll in the sunset, and the calm, positive atmosphere will bring a smile to anyone’s face. While you’re here, walk or take the lift up to the wonderful “Parc du Chateau” to view Nice from this park situated on the top of a hill. The castle that once was located in this park was destroyed in 1706, but the Bellanda Tower that was once part of the castle still remains.
“Vieux Nice”, or the old city of Nice still has the colorful, vibrant atmosphere as always. Come here during the day to explore the beautiful buildings from the 1600s and 1700s, have a look in the small boutiques or seek some shade as you stroll around along the marketplaces, squares and narrow streets. Visit again during the evening to view the transformation of this calm old city into a place of noise, music, and crowded restaurants, bars and clubs.
Nice is perfect for the busy, restless backpacker, as there are plenty of things to see in its surroundings. It is easy to get around by train, or bus, which is the cheapest alternative. When you visit Nice, make sure not to miss out on Eze. This amazing small village built along a steep mountain offers an amazing view of the sea. The village is a prefect place to escape the city as ir is very calm and quiet. The beach is not at all as crowded as in Nice, and you can enjoy a relaxing swim. You should also visit beautiful Breil sur Roya to go rafting or make a day trip to surrounding cities such as Cannes, Antibes, Monaco or Cagnes-Sur-Mer. Needless to say, your possibilities are endless.
